Planting the first vines in Santa Barbara, Sanford Winery is home to the oldest Pinot Noir vines in the county and is 100% family-owned and estate grown. While we believe extraordinary wines come from extraordinary vineyards, our attention to 1,000 details along the way helps us realize the full potential of this special place. We focus on understanding the vines, their personality, and knowing how to extract the best possible expression from them. Knowing that our Pinot Noir likes a challenge, we plant them on the hillside where they produce less fruit, but with a higher concentration of flavor, and our Chardonnay benefits from a little more protection, so they vines are planted at the bottom of the slope where they can retain more water. We farm our vineyards thoughtfully, using the winemaking to highlight the place, resulting in evocative and provocative wines that make you pause and think.
